We are really pleased to confirm that we have extended our fantastic partnership with Sunseeker International to provide Yacht Management services to their worldwide fleet.

This news marks an important 10-year milestone to both companies as it furthers our intentions to re-join forces to reach excellence with our consistent and refreshingly different approach in an ever competitive market.

THE ROOTS

Back in October 2007, whilst working as the shipyard Captain for Sunseeker International during their foray into the superyacht sector, Ben Young, Managing Director at SYM Superyacht Management, clearly remembers receiving a call from Sunseeker founder, Robert Braithwaite CBE DL: “Come and see me in my office tomorrow my boy.”

Little did he know that this meeting would spearhead the start of an incredible collaboration with one of the most successful yacht manufacturers in the world.

As the company expanded, while successfully working for some of the more “demanding” clients, Sunseeker International’s founder, Robert Braithwaite clearly saw talent and opportunity to develop a dedicated service to support the larger yachts in production.

It was during their initial meeting that the concept of ‘Sunseeker Superyacht Management” was founded and the formal partnership with SYM Superyacht Management was sealed in March 2008.

STRENGTHENED GOALS

Ten years forward, Ben is pleased to say that both businesses are continuing to go from strength to strength. The partnership has resulted in the industry’s only shipyard-branded yacht management company that was formed by Ben to provide outstanding services to help both crew and the owner in the running of their yacht.

Today as Sunseeker SYM celebrates its ten-year anniversary and renewal, the whole team is incredibly proud to be part of the Sunseeker International family and absolutely delighted to have signed up an ongoing commitment to the brand that has been so close to their hearts for such a length of time.

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY

“The superyacht sector has changed significantly over the last 10 years and the beauty of being associated with such a global company means we are less exposed to regional shifts in policy and economy. It has been particularly interesting to see the re-development of the 70’ to 90’ market over the last 18 months with lots of new clients coming forward wanting to operate commercial structures.”

A NEW BREED OF OWNERS

“Owning a yacht has become much more regulated and therefore increasingly complicate. Yet we are seeing first time buyers entering the market with brand new 116’ and 131’ purchases. These yachts require a highly experienced company to setup the right structure, team and define operational standards on-board.

I am proud to be able to say that we actively manage yachts starting from the Portofino 40’ right through to superyachts of 1,000 GRT. I personally do not see any difference in clients’ expectations, whether their yacht costs €1 Million or €60 Million – why should there be?”
